How to Add Recommendations to Your LinkedIn Profile
What is a Recommendation on LinkedIn?
Hiring managers and people searching for new customers and business partners prefer to work with people who come recommended by someone they know and trust. While there is no limit to the number of recommendations you can request or give, I tend to rotate my recommendations, depending on the current clients I am working with and who I am currently pitching to for business. Remember – if you want to leverage the power of LinkedIn, then use your profile as an active document that represents your current business and career goals.
Request a Recommendation
You can ask your connections to write a recommendation of your work that you can display on your profile:
To request a recommendation from a member’s profile page:
1. Navigate to the member’s profile page.
2. Click the … (more) icon in the top section of the profile, to the right of the picture.
3. Follow the prompts to request the recommendation.
a. What do you want to be recommended for
Choose the role you want to be recommended for (I recommend at least 2 recommendations for your current and most recent roles over the last 10 years).
b. Who do you want to ask?
c. What’s your relationship and what was their position at the time?
d. Write your message.
Note: LinkedIn will give you a default message. I recommend you tailor it and have showed you an example below of how I do this.
4. Click Send.
