What is a Recommendation on LinkedIn?
A recommendation is a comment written by a LinkedIn member to recognise or commend specific skills or results of a colleague, business partner, or student. The best way to view profiles is to consider this: you are asking people not to just take your word for the fact that you have certain skills and experience, but are also providing evidence that others agree! Recommendations are a way for others to say they have seen you demonstrate these skills and results, and they commend or acknowledge you for this.
You have the option to feature your recommendations on your profile and viewers of your profile will view the recommendations you’ve received on your profile to see what others have to say about your work.
When asking for recommendations, I suggest you ask the most senior and influential people in the industries or roles that are most relevant or will have the most impact on other people viewing your profile.
Hiring managers and people searching for new customers and business partners prefer to work with people who come recommended by someone they know and trust. While there is no limit to the number of recommendations you can request or give, I tend to rotate my recommendations, depending on the current clients I am working with and who I am currently pitching to for business. Remember – if you want to leverage the power of LinkedIn, then use your profile as an active document that represents your current business and career goals.

You can ask your connections to write a recommendation of your work that you can display on your profile:
To request a recommendation from a member’s profile page:

How do you know this connection?
