The Value of LinkedIn Company Page Updates

Linkedin Company Pages are a great way to claim your real estate on LinkedIn. If you are unsure whether you need a LinkedIn company page, please read this LinkedIn Pulse blog post I wrote about the four questions to ask before adding a LinkedIn company page.

The Role of a Company Page Update

Company updates allow Company Page administrators to directly engage with viewers and followers of their Company Page. Admins can post and share items like company news, promotions, relevant industry articles, SlideShare presentations, and Vimeo and YouTube videos.

If you’re an assigned Company Page administrator, you can post Company Updates from your Company Page Home tab. LinkedIn members can see your company updates on your company’s Home tab. Followers of your Company Page will also get the updates on their homepage.

You can see impressions and engagement information on visible updates. Posts can be up to 600 characters, including spaces. Shared link titles and descriptions can be up to 250 characters each.

 

The Value of a Company Page Update

Any LinkedIn member can comment on, like, or share a Company Update. Once a member takes one of these actions, their network will also see the update in their homepage feed.

Best practice with your organisation’s company page is to post regularly (e.g. at least 3-5 times per week) and encourage all employees of your organisation to like or comment on the content so that their connections see the update in their homepage feed.

And this is where the magic happens! It means your organisation logo and content (which needs to add genuine value to your professional community) will appear in your employee’s news feeds and be seen by all of their connections.

The Role of SlideShare in Company Page Updates

Company updates support a variety of formats including text and a link to a website, image, SlideShare presentation, or YouTube and Vimeo video. URLs will be automatically shortened by LinkedIn’s URL shortener.

There are 70 million professionals globally who read SlideShare to learn about any topic quickly from subject matter experts. Founded in 2006 with the goal of making knowledge sharing easy, Slideshare joined the LinkedIn family in 2012 and has since grown into a top destination for professional content. With over 18 million uploads in 40 content categories, it is today one of the top 100 most-visited websites in the world.

You can show what you know through a presentation, infographic, document or videos. Visual formats help you stand out and resonate more with your readers.

Targeted Company Updates

Targeted company updates are also available to give companies the ability to tailor content to specific audiences. Updates are targeted based on followers profile data which include the following parameters:

  • company size
  • industry
  • function
  • seniority
  • geography
  • language preference

You can also target non-employee followers with these same targeting parameters.
